The ancient weaving mill Luigi Bevilacqua presents a new collection of velvets, inspired by the golden age of the Republic of Venice: the 16th century.
The influence of oriental patterns on Venetian velvet in the 16th century
The four patterns Sforza, Ca’ d’Oro, Alboreti and Gonzaga, whose historical samples are part of Bevilacqua’s archive, reflect the influence of oriental decorative motifs on luxury fabrics. Such influence was at its peak in the 16th century, when velvet had its most successful age.
Techniques and devices to weave velvet
These Venetian velvets have been realized using handcrafted techniques and jacquard looms dating back to the first decades of the 20th century. Both the techniques and the looms represent a tradition which has been handed down from one generation to the next one within the Bevilacqua family.
They are available in seven colours: rust, red, ivory, gold, indigo, old rose, olive green.
