Browsing through the rich landscape of contemporary fashion, original collaborations emerge that fuse seemingly distant worlds. Among them, the unprecedented synergy between renowned tattoo artist Dr. Woo, the famous fashion brand Golden Goose and the world of Venetian textile art, embodied by our Tessitura, stands out. We tell you what it is all about.
Dr. Woo and Golden Goose: a brief introduction
On the other hand, Golden Goose is an iconic fashion brand with a unique mission: to celebrate creativity and individuality. The brand recently announced the launch of HAUS, a global cultural platform to unleash creativity, with a focus on the brand’s community of dreamers.
This project has taken root in Marghera, the industrial port of Venice, where it will come to life through an Academy, a Manovia, an Archive, a Library, an Auditorium, and an Exhibition Area of international standing.
An event to celebrate tattoo art, textiles, and fashion
Last May, HAUS of Dreamers was inaugurated in Venice during the Biennale of Architecture 2023, bringing the physical experience of HAUS directly into the heart of the city. Five internationally renowned multifaceted artists, including Dr. Woo, were selected to reinterpret and modernize classic Venetian icons, creating unique and immersive experiences. And this is where Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua comes in.
During the evening, Dr. Woo took over a space at The Venice Hotel. Here, he created a unique installation using local textiles and porcelain that echoed his distinctive tattoo style. Inspired by Venetian damask, Dr. Woo evoked Venetian textile art, creating a unique limited edition artwork. This was a celebration of the meeting of Venetian craft tradition and Dr. Woo’s modern art.
This union also later emerged in the brand’s campaign photo shoot, which featured our Tessitura atelier as the ideal backdrop for the new Dr. Woo by Golden Goose creations.
The Dreamed by Dr. Woo collection
The Dreamed by Dr. Woo capsule collection, consisting of three items, is the result of this unique collaboration. The artist reinterpreted the classic Venetian damask fabric, one of the city’s treasures that has marked the history of Italian and primarily Venetian textiles. The result was extraordinary: a limited-edition plate made of porcelain, adorned with his signature tattoo graphics, created using a special pad printing technique, decalcomania.
The collection also includes a genderless crewneck sweatshirt with designs that recall Dr. Woo’s tattoos. The number 55, the artist’s lucky number, was printed on the back using a water-based technique. The worn areas on the piping and the subtle yellowing of the white color give the sweatshirt Golden Goose’s characteristic lived-in look.
We could not forget the Super-Star sneakers, featuring exclusive artist-designed motifs. The 3D-embroidered spider has become a hallmark of the footwear. With an ice gray crust upper and a black star, these sneakers are embellished with torn patches and broken laces, enhancing the lived-in treatment.
The Dreamed by Dr. Woo collection had its world premiere in Los Angeles on July 6 at Maxfield, with a private event followed by an exclusive dinner with Dr. Woo at Chateau Marmont. Guests included well-known names from the fashion and art industries, all of whom were excited about this exceptional collaboration between fashion and textile art.
This capsule, available at www.goldengoose.com and in select stores worldwide, is a perfect example of how textile art and fashion can merge to create unique works of art that celebrate individuality and creativity, bringing a touch of Venice to the world.
