Caterina is a practical and refined bowler, a model that has become a classic and is among the most loved by women, as versatile and suitable for all types of attires and circumstances.
Caterina is available in Rinascimento soprarizzo velvet in fuchsia color and in Göteborg velvet, whose pattern was designed by Swedish architect Carl G. Bergsten between 1932 and 1934. The design of this velvet recalls the motifs dear to the Art Deco with a wide curve that crosses the ground, cut on the top and on one side by a slanting and an upright band. Wide curves, sharp contrasts, essential and geometric shapes that evoke the idea of movement that the artists of the Twenties and Thirties were so fond of.
Who’s Caterina Cornaro
The elegance of its forms is inspired by the queen it is named after: Caterina Cornaro, a woman who has meant a lot for Venice and who has been much loved by the Venetians. Caterina, coming from one of the richest and most influential families of the patriciate of the Serenissima, became queen in 1474, marrying Giacomo II, king of Cyprus and Armenia. This marriage had great political importance for the Venetian Republic that had a considerable influence in that area. At the death of the king, Caterina remained on the throne but, following a series of conspiracies by the Catalans, in 1489 she was forced by Venice to abdicate to guarantee the complete control of the eastern Mediterranean to the Republic.
However, despite her abdication, she was able to maintain her title as the queen of Cyprus and with this the honors and prestige related to her title, as well as a rich appanage. Her return to Venice was solemn and so sumptuous that even today the Historical Regatta celebrates its memory. She was appointed lady of Asolo where Caterina created a splendid Renaissance court to which artists flocked, including Giorgione, rulers, men of power and culture that Caterina intrigued and fascinated even if the hope of a return to Cyprus never left her, in a sort of dream of the lost kingdom.
