Damasks are fabrics with very large motifs, usually floral, and rich in details. Characterised by an iridescent brightness and a soft lightness, they are mainly used in furnishing, even sacred. What makes them unique is the contrast of brightness between the background and the design, obtained thanks to their satin weave: warp and weft are the same colour, but the light is reflected differently on the areas where the satin is shiny and those where the satin is dull. Although they aren’t reversible fabrics, their pattern is visible both on the front and the reverse side, but shiny and dull parts are opposite, just like in a photo’s negative.
