Our Tessitura is famous for hand-woven Venetian velvets, an art of which we are the last heirs in Venice. But in addition to the soprarizzos created with antique looms, we have a mechanical production that has been making fabrics of the highest quality in the Veneto region since the 1930s. Let’s focus on one particular fabric that is the result of this production: the animalier heddle velvet.
The Mechanical Production of Animalier Velvets
Heddle velvets are made on mechanical looms in which the use of special iron needles, called “heddle rods,” is reminiscent of handwork, thus expressing the highest craftsmanship in this type of velvet.
Even in mechanical production, the work of the weaver is essential in preparing the loom, in following the production at every stage, and ensuring that the quality is always excellent. Therefore, long and careful training goes hand in hand with the weaver’s indispensable talents of patience and passion. Using silk, cotton and other yarns, fine velvets with extraordinary luster and softness characteristics are obtained.
Unlike handmade animalier velvets, which being made entirely by artisans are unique pieces that may have small imperfections or differences between one fabric and another, mechanical animalier velvets offer greater uniformity. In addition, they can be made in a shorter time than manual ones, thus ensuring speed of delivery and a cost that makes these fabrics an affordable luxury for both home décor and fashion.
Animalier Heddle Velvets with Classic Colors
Animalier velvets are eye-catching in home-decor and very eclectic. In fact, they suit a wide variety of decorating styles and fit any rooms, from bedroom to study. Limiting their use for details such as pillows, an ottoman or an upholstered chair, helps prevent them from overwhelming the room but they still remain a focal point. For a more original but harmonious effect, try pairing multiple animal patterns in the same color palette, for example mixing leopard-print pillows with tiger-print, on a zebra-print seat.
In our collection of animalier heddle velvets we have included a selection of patterns ranging from crocodile, tortoise, zebra, tiger, and the timeless leopard.
In classic shades, those that reflect the original natural colors of animals, animalier heddle velvets become a neutral to be used instead of solid colors and are characterized by great versatility. This mix of neutral shades is suitable for either harmonious color combinations with solids in the same color scale or contrasting ones. For those who do not like overly bold animal patterns, the elegant Coccodrillo (crocodile) velvet and Tartaruga (tortoiseshell) velvet are perfect because they have an almost abstract look while still giving personality to the most refined environments. Zebrato velvet, with its optical effect, also suits any style while maintaining a timeless aesthetic.
Colorful Animalier Velvets
Our animalier heddle velvets are not limited to just the colors found in nature. In fact, to the neutral tones we have added unusual and original colors to downplay a formal setting or give a traditional room a bit of liveliness. The colors we present range from bright to pastel colors for a less extravagant but still striking look.
Whether for upholstered seating, sofas, and armchairs, or for cushions, animalier heddle velvets in the most original shades can harmonize with the colors in the room or create a play of strong contrasts. Everyone can have fun creating their own style by choosing from the more delicate antique pink and indigo, the more vibrant egeo, green shiné and ibisco, or the more opulent black and gold.
